600km from all other endangered #Indus River #dolphins , there is a popn. of animals trapped above an irrigation dam on the Beas River #India .

In 40 surveys no more than 8 dolphins have ever been counted.

Most scientific reports say Indian Ocean Humpback #dolphins occur in water less than 25m deep. So we looked, kept looking, & in the end found them in water 5m deep, half way up #rivers and next to #mangroves ! We are learning a lot about this endangered species! #Tanzania SMRU
