UPDATE) An Orca has apparently died at the "Whale Prison." The facility filed a report with the Nakhodka Police, claiming an orca has somehow "escaped" into frozen Srednyaya Bay. It's most likely Cyril (Kirill), the ailing 1 year old calf seen floating listlessly in this video:

UPDATE 2) Two months ago the owners of the "Whale Prison" claimed 3 Beluga whale calves had also mysteriously "escaped" (more likely died from stress, disease and/or malnutrition). The owners claim animals escape, rather than died in their care, to avoid further criminal charges.

The whales are cared for by veterinarians, but the cramped, freezing conditions in which they live are horrible, especially for the orcas. Much of Srednyaya Bay is frozen & the water in their cages is quite stagnant, leaving the whales swimming in their own feces & rotting food.
