There is no such thing as an apolitical classroom.

There are only 2 problems with using tests to assess learning: Right answers often don’t reflect real understanding, and wrong answers often don’t reflect the absence of understanding. (Because the kind of learning tests are designed to assess isn't really about understanding.)

"They are using AI instead of using the skills they're supposed to be practicing." Shortcutting or bypassing essential skills is not "enhancing" learning, full stop.

A 'Free and Public Education' should include EVERYTHING. No child should have to spend a penny to participate in a single thing at school. Supplies, field trips, athletics, food, extracurriculars, all of it.

The first day of school with kids being a Monday is rough.

Possibly controversial opinion: menstrual products should be free in all bathrooms, not just schools. They should just be freely available to all who need them. Many other things should be freely available to all who need them, too.

have you ever heard a room of 9th graders strategize about what to do in an active shooter situation? because I have and that shit is heartbreaking. this country doesn't give a fuck about education and it doesn't give a fuck about children.

It's gun$. Every time there is a school shooting. It's gun$. And there are professionals who go to work, 5 days a week, knowing it's a possibility at their school. But, they still go.

Sentencing a 14 year old isn’t doing something. It’s pretending to do something instead of taking meaningful action to ensure this never happens again.

If you're the teacher students come to to process their thoughts about the world, please please please protect your peace and your boundaries as best you can.

Mrs. Bond is on her *ish about hoodies again, y’all! For me, a hoodie is a way to regulate when I’m overstimulated. Please be thoughtful in how you address hoodies in your class & school. For some kids, it’s a safety blanket.

Everyone talks about how kids these days are just lazy. The vibes were off today so I gave my students quite a bit of free time. You know what they did? Worked on their AP Euro. This is why I don't take people who always talk s*** about kids seriously.
