Rep. John Lewis has passed. It is not enough to say he was a revered civil rights icon. He was a man of impeccable integrity who dedicated his life to fighting against racism, discrimination & injustice. John was a true leader who inspired us all to have the courage to fight.

A white supremacist group, The Proud Boys, tore down Black Lives Matter signs off three DC churches over the weekend. Today it was dropped from TV news coverage. If it had been BLM marchers who vandalized white churches it would be covered on the news for the next two weeks.

Whatever truth Tim Scott tried to offer in his speech last night is negated by the ridiculous false assertion that “America is not a racist nation.” No credibility with a statement like that. Individual exceptionalism can never be a basis for public policy.

EXCITED: Last year I became a contributor to Encyclopaedia Britannica My first entry — about #juneteenth — is now live on the homepage. This feels like a full-circle moment because encyclopedias were so important to me as a child. britannica.com/story/a-teen-g…

#Juneteenth commemorates the day news of the Emancipation Proclamation reached enslaved Black people in Texas on June 19, 1865, effectively ending slavery in the U.S.   May we reflect on all of the progress we have made and recommit ourselves to the work ahead.
