An active weather day ahead as a strong cold front approaches the region. Be prepared for showers and gusty southerly winds, especially downwind of the higher terrain south of Buffalo and Rochester, and east of Lake Ontario. Winds begin to relax areawide later this afternoon.

We will also be monitoring the potential for convection this afternoon, when heavier showers and thunderstorms are expected to move through from west to east. The main threat with any stronger storms that develop will be the potential for locally enhanced, damaging wind gusts.
