I’m at the Minneapolis City Council meeting where council members are voting to reconsider their rideshare ordinance.

The motion was started by council member Andrea Jenkins. It passed unanimously and discussions will now start.

Any motion to amend the original ordinance has to be approved by at least seven votes.

The first amendment is from Council Member Katie Cashman, it’s to push the date back to July 1 for the ordinance.
Discussion is ongoing but nobody seems to be in opposition.

Council Member Aurin Chowdhury says four rideshare companies have applied for a license with the city.

“I just think this is a bad policy and we need to fix it,” says Council Member LaTrisha Vetaw.
She said she’s supporting pushing the date back but doesn’t support the ordinance due to constituent concerns.

Vetaw hasn’t supported a rideshare ordinance in the past. She said she hopes the two months gives council enough time to fix their policy.

The delay is approved unanimously. New implementation date for Minneapolis’ rideshare ordinance is July 1. Sahan Journal
