This just in from 2fifty: The owners have received their final permit for the Mount Vernon Triangle location. They’re set to open Sat., Jan. 13, at 414 K St. NW. The new spot will serve meat-market style, like in Texas. Also look for pulled lamb and a whole hog sandwich.

I'm back with another Casual Dining column in The Washington Post. The oxtail jollor rice, red red and groundnut soup at Hedzole made for some of the most comforting meals I've had all winter. REVIEW: washingtonpost.com/food/2024/01/2…

This is a true loss to our community. Well-informed residents are essential to democracy, and good government is harder to accomplish without rigorous public examination and discussion of what we do. The absence of @dcist will be heartfelt by all of us.

It was also apparent over time that top station leadership just didn't know much about what their newsroom did. At one meeting, we asked Erika point blank what content of ours she liked best. She basically had no answer.

Thank you to all the DCist editors and reporters who produced a phenomenal local news site with a unique voice. WAMU 88.5 is making a big mistake.

Hi. I’m one of the DCist WAMU 88.5 reporters laid off. I’m deeply saddened to no longer cover the immigrant communities who make D.C. & our region so special. I’m beyond proud of the reporting I’ve done on air and our website since starting this beat from scratch 2 years ago ❤️

Everyone I’ve taken to Cafe Unido seems to echo my reaction: This is way better food than you’d expect from a coffee shop. My latest Casual Dining review for The Washington Post washingtonpost.com/food/2024/03/0…

Kevin Hart is receiving the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor, which begs the question: Is Kevin Hart funny? I went to Charleston to find out. washingtonpost.com/entertainment/…

If you visit the Mall today, you’ll view the sun through solar telescopes and sunspot devices. You’ll also acquire a lot of swag: NASA-branded solar glasses, pinhole projectors, a set of postcards showing eclipses on other planets, stickers showing the phases of the eclipse …

I traveled with Secretary Pete Buttigieg and talked airplane pet peeves, seat preference, policy and our common experience of flying with small kids. Also got to put a super cool dateline on the story. wapo.st/3yp2Mso

Japan is proud of its “omotenashi” spirit: Its practice of wholeheartedly caring and catering for guests. But a post-covid surge in tourist numbers is pushing Japan’s world-famous hospitality to the brink. By Julia Mio Inuma (井沼ジュリア): washingtonpost.com/world/2024/05/…

Sorry to break it to everyone, but I went to DCA tonight and people are still taking their shoes off at the security checkpoints.
