Last week, the future USS John Basilone (DDG 122) sailed down the Kennebec River for sea trials, returning to our shipyard on Thursday with a stark contrast in weather.

We're grateful for all of our shipbuilders who all played pivotal roles in completing this milestone. #GDBIW

Last Friday, on National Vietnam War Veterans Day, we commemorated the namesake of DDG 127, Patrick Gallagher — an Irish national who volunteered to serve in Vietnam and was killed in action on March 30, 1967, with a bag pipe recital.

Due to last night’s ice storm, today’s BEST Easter Egg Hunt has been canceled. We are determining whether to reschedule. Stay warm and safe out there, everyone!

Last Wednesday we held our Service Anniversary Luncheon honoring those who worked at BIW for 5, 10, 15, 20 and 25 years in March, and it was our biggest group of 5-year honorees yet! Thank you for all the important work you do and your contributions to our shipbuilding legacy.

Brent West, VP of Supply Chain & Quality, is retiring after 41 years at BIW, and last night he was honored at a reception. His career spanned the delivery of the final Oliver Hazard Perry-class frigate and the start of the DDG 51 and DDG 1000 programs. Happy retirement, Brent!
