It’s kind of bizarre to feel the need to say it, but it’s a very very bad sign for a society if one cannot freely protest a genocide, ethnic cleansing, war crimes, mass graves, and the mass incineration of children. That is a very bad place for a culture to be.

Gov. Abbott was all for campus free speech when he agreed with the protesters.

But when he disagrees, he changes course — and violently suppresses student speech.

This is discriminatory and unlawful. Period.

Yesterday, pro-Palestinian protesters at IU Bloomington joined thousands of like-minded people across the country in exercising protected political speech — but were met with police and were arrested.

This goes against our nation’s free speech principles.

.University of Illinois We understand police in riot gear are facing off with students protesting at University of Illinois . Armed police only escalate this situation and will put the safety of everyone at risk. We call on administrators to show restraint and use dialogue, not force.

Me unconscious and attended to by paramedics, Univ Michigan, 10/6/88, at a student protest protesting the new policy restricting protests. Technically I was not protesting; I was reporting on the protests for The Michigan Daily. The cop in the sunglasses did that to me. And others.

College students have a right to protest.

No one — including law enforcement — should interfere with that right.

The most dire crisis trans people face in this country is unfolding in our country's prisons--from access to health care to safety from violence to free expression--and that remains true even as so much attention is pulled into statehouse fights themarshallproject.org/2024/04/26/tra…

1/ Although colleges determine their own unique codes of conduct, they cannot sidestep their own rules and guidance in retaliation of speech they disagree with.

Make sure to know your rights to protesting at public + private institutions:

Protest is a central part of Boston’s history, including political expression and student activism.

There is a distinction between removing encampments to ensure safe access to a public right of way and using physical violence against students engaging in peaceful expression.
