Six weeks ago, this farmer in Galloway didn’t know what lapwings were. Now he’s doing everything he can to protect their nests in a grass reseed - and he’s nagging his neighbours to do likewise. There’s no “quick fix” in wader conservation, but this feels like a small victory 💪

A Peewit chick there’s at least 2 in this wet patch that didn’t get sown , it doesn’t take much to keep them happy, a wet area in a grass field is ideal.

🐥 From fluff ball to fleeing runner, our curlew chicks are growing up. Daily, our volunteer's WhatsApp is full of anguish and joy as these little adventurers keep us busy with their hide and seek. 🌾👀 This little one has 2 weeks🤞 before it takes off as a fledgling flyer. 🚀

After a few quick photos of the Snipe chick (previous post) I left it in peace - but not before propping my phone up to see what it did when it ‘unfroze’. Here it is, scarpering!

This late #lapwing nest in Galloway has become the subject of endless curiosity for the local hares. No harm done, & these eggs should hatch in the next 24hours- after lots of work & input from the farmer, hopefully there will be chicks to get excited about! #waders #farmwildlife

Delighted to come back from holiday and find three well grown lapwing chicks on the farm. Fallowed field with a random spoil heap appears to make ideal habitat. One of the chicks and a parent bird in this pic.
