Huge thanks to the TfL walking action plan team, Footways, Ramblers Walking for Health and LondonLivingStreets for laying on a great walking trip along part of the recently opened Green Link Walk for London Assembly members. So important that walking is taken seriously with routes like this.

Historically, the route west from Westminster ran along Tothill St. But the construction of Victoria Station demanded a more direct link, so in 1850 Victoria Street was created. The magnificent Albert pub was built in the 1860s footways.london/rail-heritage-โ€ฆ

As you walk from St James's Park to Victoria Station, contemplate that this glimpse of Westminster Cathedral did not exist before 2006, when Cardinal Place shopping centre opened up new walking routes through what had been an impenetrable office block footways.london/westminster

Thanks to the Elizabeth Line, Farringdon station is now the UK's ninth-busiest, with shiny new exits a quarter of a mile apart and in different boroughs. But this is where it all began: the original engine shed from 1865 is behind this 1922 frontage footways.london/rail-heritage-โ€ฆ
