I was too late in the season really for Sand Crocuses at Dawlish Warren today, but still managed to find a couple of plants gone to seed on the golf course and one in flower at the translocation site. One of only 2 UK sites for this rare species 😄

A very important message: honeybees don't need help, but our wild bee species do! Honeybees can very quickly outcompete the wild species.

Ever wondered about the value of bioblitz? Participants found several of this jumping spider at last year’s event and we were stumped - for good reason as it’s just been described as Anaseitis milesae, a new species to science! Join us this year for (hopefully) more discoveries!

A couple of days staying near Taunton in Somerset gave me the chance to see these 2 dandelions, both described nearby in 2019. Taraxacum amicorum (still only known from Taunton) and T. atrocollinum (also now known from several other sites). Thanks Jon Holt for the info 😄

We must be stupid. We are gonna go for 1500 species in 24 hours, midnight top midnight this year. The rules are here. We managed 1000 in 217 but a lot has changed since then...

Inverts don’t get much more photogenic than jumping spiders! These male and female Hasarius adansoni were found in the rainforest biome of the Eden Project yesterday 😍
