Spring arrives early in the southwest, but seldom this early. My first sighting of a Swift this year, gliding over Porthleven—a good month ahead of their usual arrival. Cornwall Birds
Humpback and Minke Whale on the house list!! Both found by others this evening lingering in the Carrick Roads 😍
Also Sedge Warbler at Pendennis Earlier, and my first few Willow Warblers of the year dotted around Cornwall Birds
EGYPTIAN GOOSE!!! Incredible scenes, hard to believe it’s only March but we’ve already had the Tremough 10k bird of the year!! Patch birding doesn’t get much better than this 🎉🥳🍻🎊🍾🤯 Matthew Broadbent James Drage Hubert Louis P Cornwall Birds
When I popped down to Pendennis Point with my parents this afternoon for a little walk, I wasn't expecting to find a Humpback Whale! It got even better when it was joined by another two! All three showed very well until dusk. They certainly drew a crowd! MarineWatch
I'm incredibly grateful to Ben Hancock-Smith for managing to capture the unbelievable moment one of today's 3 Pendennis Humpback Whales breached, drawing audible gasps from the hundreds gathered at the point, and for letting me post the pics here. What a moment!
An incredible 2 week field trip in Kenya with University of Exeter Conservation and Biodiversity MSc (U of Exeter) learning all about the successes and challenges of large mammal conservation and human wildlife coexistence! Some truely inspiring experiences, discussions and debates with peers, researchers and academics!
