Spring arrives early in the southwest, but seldom this early. My first sighting of a Swift this year, gliding over Porthleven—a good month ahead of their usual arrival. Cornwall Birds

Was excited to see a fox just now in Dartmoor...which quickly vanished when it started running, pursued by 10 people on horses and about 50 dogs. How tf is this still happening 😤. Dreadful pic through windscreen only of the lead horse

Calling anyone who’s seen and photographed Risso’s dolphins in Cornwall or Devon!
For my masters project I need photos that clearly show the dorsal fin, for more information on the project head to drive.google.com/file/d/17YrqNv…
Retweets appreciated! 🐬

Nothing like 3 Humpback Whales just down the road to end a posting hiatus! Two unique dorsal shapes in pics below, 3rd got away. Sociable Lapwing at Ruan Lanihorne and some good rockpooling (sea slug-Placida dendritica) the other highlights of the year so far…

When I popped down to Pendennis Point with my parents this afternoon for a little walk, I wasn't expecting to find a Humpback Whale! It got even better when it was joined by another two! All three showed very well until dusk. They certainly drew a crowd! MarineWatch

I'm incredibly grateful to Ben Hancock-Smith for managing to capture the unbelievable moment one of today's 3 Pendennis Humpback Whales breached, drawing audible gasps from the hundreds gathered at the point, and for letting me post the pics here. What a moment!

Combining 3 of my favourite things this morning in keeping fit, being low carbon and nature. I took the ferry from Falmouth to St Mawes and had great views of dolphins before cycling to the Sociable Lapwing (nice green tick). Then jamming in on 3 Cirl Bunting on the way home!

NEW PAPER: Ever wondered why insects fly in all sorts of crazy patterns around lights at night? So did we! We set about recording flying insects to work out what's going on. I'll summarise what we found in this 🧵. Spoiler: We don't think they confuse lights with the moon.
