Summer light at the Menin Gate Memorial in Ypres which commemorates nearly 55,000 British & Commonwealth missing from #WW1. Lord Plumer unveiled the memorial in 1927 & said of those named on the panels: ‘He is not missing; he is here’ #DailyBattlefields

Fr. Reginald Riley was an important figure in this Battalion's history: Parish Priest to many of its members, source of encouragement and solace, benevolent authority. A number of our soldiers kept up correspondence with him when on active service. #StHelens

Many of ours among them. (You can see a 'real-time' account of our experience by looking up the posts from this time in 2017.) #Cambrai

Demonstrates just how dangerous the First World War ordnance is over 100 years on: Smoking phosphorus grenade found in #Ypres: four workers taken to hospital with breathing problems: vrt.be/vrtnws/nl/2023…

Even just these three snippets about Lt.-Col. James illustrate what a disaster we suffered in the German attack 107 years ago today, at #Cambrai. By night, almost all but the circa 10% held back as a reserve were dead, wounded or captured. #Lancashire #OnThisDay #FWW

Morning all. This account is now hibernating, indefinitely. You can find me in other places, should you wish. I hope to return, should better days come. Meanwhile, thank you for everything. All the best!
