Documents released by Department for Transport suggest that National Highways no longer intends to deliver the full abandonment scheme for which planning permission is sought. Instead it will leave Shaft 1 and 120 yards of tunnel at the south end unfilled. Otherwise the cost would be ~£9.7M.
