And, under a key Census measure of inequality (known as the “Gini coefficient”), DC tied with New York for having the highest levels of income inequality in the nation except for Puerto Rico.

While the Mayor set a goal of lifting the median Black household income by 25%, she continues to cut funding from transformative programs that improve racial justice and economic security. Her failure on progress towards this goal is showing up in the poverty data.
