One chapter of rani_spiegler's upcoming book "The Curious Culture of Economic Theory" is available on his website. I found it equal parts educational, entertaining and disconcerting. In other words, I can't wait for the book to come out. PDF👇 ranspiegler.sites.tau.ac.il/_files/ugd/487…

This paper by Matthias Fahn and Takeshi Murooka considers Relational Contracts in a setting with labor market frictions. Their model generates some interesting insights on the consequences of higher labor supply or the role of minimum wages to combat discrimination.

Angela Merkel's memoirs are out next month. This week's Charlemagne revisits her legacy. She led Germany - and thus Europe - as if in a make-believe world, letting it enjoy an extended geopolitical and economic nap from which it still needs to wake up. economist.com/europe/2024/10…

Week 9: The theory paper in focus this week is the seminal paper on the theory of the firm by Grossman and Hart published in the JPE in 1986. The voyage starts with a remarkable observation by Coase: Why does a firm exist or differently why is the entire economy not a firm?

Latin American economic populists have embraced fiscal discipline and central bank independence after painful economic experimentation. What lessons for Europe? Read my post today (link below).
