I never quite understood the value the NDP and Ontario NDP bring to all of us up until this year. I used to be one of those people who thought they should merge with the Liberals and of course as someone who spent too much time on political campaigns (I’m recovering from that…

In 2022, 20 big landlords applied for >1/2 the Above Guideline rent Increases in Ontario.

'AGIs are a common way to pressure longtime tenants to leave, allowing landlords to raise the rent to market rates for new tenants.'

We need stronger rent controls.

Ontario is a place where everyone should be free to wear whatever piece of clothing proudly reflects their heritage. Our legislature should be no different. 🧵

The Iñupiat of Alaska traditionally use a base-20 number system. In 1994, students at Kaktovik middle school worked with their teacher to invent a way to write this, since they found our base-10 unfamiliar. After the invention of Kaktovik numerals, test scores rose significantly

Jane McAlevey sent an email to her list this morning, penning her goodbye to those of us who've had the privilege of getting a glimpse of her genius.

'I Have Loved Being In This World With You'. We're about to lose one of the greats.

I am thankful for the work of Toronto Cycling and Pedestrian Projects... but this map is a striking illustration of how impossible it is to safely cross the 401. There is not a SINGLE piece of bike infrastructure to allow people to safely cross for 23KM, from the Humber to Brimley. BikeTO Olivia Chow

I've had a first look at Bill 185 and the new proposed Provincial Planning Statement and WOW ... there's a reason why the Ontario government spent hours feeding reporters its spin on these laws before releasing their text to the public. Massive dangers hidden in this text. 🧵👇

The pictures in this thread were taken almost exactly a year ago, on Ontario Place’s West Island.

It would be full of people on a day like this, if it hadn’t been closed off. Instead, plans are to demolish all of this, replacing it with concrete, glass, and indoor private space.
