.Eleanor #DCStatehood Holmes Norton knows that the Trump Admin relocated federal agencies outside of the DC area in an attempt to oust expert federal workers. Trump’s Chief of Staff even said so, claiming the costly move was a “wonderful way” to “shed federal employees.”

DC may not have senators, but we do have allies in the Senate.

Today the House considers the DC CRIMES Act. This bill completely ties our hands from taking steps to address crime in the District. Swift and certain consequences are essential to deterring crime, and persistent congressional interference contradicts that goal.

The DC CRIMES Act on the House floor tomorrow would remove DC's ability to increase or decrease criminal penalties.
 
Worse, it may be construed to prevent DC from creating any new crimes in the future.
 
Impairing DC's ability to deter crimes would almost certainly lead to more.
