Interesting #gupath case: poorly differentiated carcinoma w/squamous features involving the bladder - note the squamous component in the deep portion of low mag pic, more prominent in the high mag H&E and GATA-3 stain in the residual predominantly denuded urothelial surface 1/3

Great example of the exception to the "tightly packed small round glands favors cancer" - this doesn't look terribly infiltrative (still rounded), but depending on how the needle went through it could be challenging. Higher power very typical of post-atrophic hyperplasia #gupath

Marked nuclear atypia, pleomorphism, and frequent mitoses are characteristic of this tumor. Anaplastic spermatocytic tumor can be challenging to diagnose and could be. mistaken. for malignancy. The key lies in identifying all cell types. CD117+/OCT4- proves it #urology #GUpath

Something I learned from Jerad Gardner, MD. Gout crystals can be visualized under polarization on unstained FFPE slide, without red compensator filter. Coverslip is not necessary, but it looks better with one. #pathology #pathologists #pathboards Rutgers RWJMS Pathology

May 2023 is #bladdercancerawarenessmonth Urothelial carcinoma can invade the prostate, mimic high grade #prostatecancer & occasionally be sampled on needle biopsy (see PICS) #gupath

For our 2023 #pathology trainees, remember this #GUPath adage👇 “Not all renal tumors with clear cells are clear cell renal cell carcinoma” … spot on in this molecular era! 👇Below are DDX for Clear cell #RCC including #renal tumors with some degree of cytoplasmic clearing🔬
