Look, here’s the thing about free speech: YES, it’s not “absolute”. Even the most hardcore free speech advocates agree that there are exceptions. Extreme case: telling e.g. Russia about UK military secrets is “just” a speech act, but it is (and should be) illegal in UK law.

✅ The council concerned has declared a climate emergency ✅ A Green councillor was among those refusing the bid ✅ No-one concerned seems to have noticed you’d need to put solar panels on 40,000 roofs to get close to this output (and then it would be less efficient, still)

About a year ago, I posted about how the frontline in Ukraine can be easily seen from space. Well, a year later, the brown scar of the so-called 'Grey Zone' can be seen even more clearly than ever. Hundreds of thousands of lives, millions of shells and billions of dollars

Misinformation spread on social media is a problem. But, misinformation spread in national newspapers and in academic institutions is even worse. For example:

Australia’s govt has approved a 4,300km interconnector project between Singapore & solar farms in north Australia. If it gets built it’ll be 3x longer (4,300km) than the world’s longest interconnector (1,400km between England & Denmark) & provide 15% of Singapore’s electricity!

How common is homelessness across the world? Countries have very different rates of homelessness, according to the OECD’s Affordable Housing Database. The chart shows that more than 300 out of every 100,000 are reported homeless in France, while it’s fewer than 20 in Finland.

Good news everyone - Zoopla says rents are now rising at 'only' 5.7% due to "lower student numbers and a slower pace of people coming to the country to work" which are both due to mild restrictions on dependants Sunak was pressured into late last year Let's see what Labour does

Obama calls new houses “units”. This man is 100% on the team. You don't say that word unless you’re way too deep into the literature.

This is equivalent to 6% of the entire US electricity grid (1100GW). It’s pretty much the entire size of the UK electricity production in one year. The solar transition is really here and it’s still accelerating.

Luxury flats start ‘moving chains’ freeing up housing lower down the ladder. Luxury flats don’t create people out of thin air. If you don’t build these apartments, high flying Manchester executives will outbid someone for another gaff nearby.

Is Ozempic the first anti-ageing drug? With benefits from heart disease to covid survival…maybe? It would be amazing news if so, showing the world that medicines for ageing are a) a totally normal thing we can develop and b) VERY PROFITABLE bbc.com/news/articles/…
