#MiningMonday This miners lamp belonged to Harold Wilcock who worked at Highgate Colliery from the age of 14 he was described as 'knowing every creak and groan of the underground workings and despite his traditional approach remained a respected and well liked employee'

#WildsmithWednesday Brian Wildsmith won a scholarship to De La Salle College in Sheffield. Brian was originally focussed on science but realised he wanted a more creative career and in 1946 applied to Barnsley College of Art.

If you're in Barnsley today or until next January I would definitely go to Brian Wildsmith exhibitions hosted by Experience Barnsley Museum The Cooper Gallery it's really wonderful. Full of original work , sketches etc. I was entranced and covetous at the same time

#WildsmithWednesday Brian Wildsmith spent his free time sketching & went to Wentworth Woodhouse to draw the classical statues inside the house. There, he met Aurélie Ithurbide, one of the chef's daughters. They fell in love & eventually married in 1955.
