Wind capacity went up but output fell in the US in 2023.

That's because wind speeds dropped. Also doesn't help that working wind turbines wear down over their brief lives.

A nuclear plant costs more up front but tends to get more powerful and consistent over its first 60 years.

The romantic narrative that hunter gatherers only “worked” 15-20 hours a week to acquire their food and the rest of their time in rest and leisure never made sense to me.

I don't like to drive people away from nuclear, but this person, and the OCAA they are connected with, consistently demonstrate functional illiteracy is not a barrier to a career in anti-nuke campaigning.

may be more of a prerequisite.

Québec, whose state utility began publicly exploring plans to reopen its defunct nuclear plant last year, inches a step closer (rhetorically at least) to doing so. ledevoir.com/politique/queb…

Ontario currently subsidizes $3.1 billion of our electricity bills not to fund nuclear, but to remove 85% of the cost of the wind and solar contracts signed under the GEA from them.

Tripling wind and solar and removing nuclear and gas leaves a 12,000MW firm supply deficit,

Quebec will “one day” have to use nuclear power to achieve its decarbonization targets by 2050, said Economic and Energy Minister Pierre Fitzgibbon.

'limits could soon emerge in terms of means such as hydropower, wind, solar...'

'1 GW - that's the size of a meaningful nuclear power plant, only going towards training a model.

Over the last few years, there was this issue of GPU production. Now I think that's getting less.

But I actually think before we hit that, you're gonna run into energy constraints.

Want to know what is even better? Had this unit not suffered a 52 hour upset in July 2022, its run could have been 815 days!

Even with that outage, over the period it produced 16,007,147 MWh or an average output of 818 MW vs. its registered capability of 817 MW.

Proven power.

This is what happens when you treat a service like a commodity. Price volatility and a fragile grid. It only gets worse from here.
