China’s industrial support spending is much higher than in the US, Germany or France.

However, most subsidies come from cheap funding (i.e. below market debt and equity) instead of direct public spending.

Took me a second to grasp that this is the “throwing gas on the fire” cliche and not a commentary on U.S. fossil fuel exports in defense of China’s solar overcapacity.

Thought this was a good auto piece by Jack Ewing on what happens when a factory actually transitions from ICE and produces only electric vehicles. Enter Volkswagen at Zwickau. Things did not go nearly as poorly as expected.

In 1880, the avg married couple combined for ~68 hours of paid labor each week.

By 1965, after massive tech and social changes, the avg married couple workweek was ... 67 hours.

In 2003? 67 hours.

In 2020? 67 hours.

Compared to steel or aviation, ground transport is easy to decarbonize. Technically true. But political economy matters. We’re seeing the limits of a strategy of inducing private sector investment and individual consumption. We need more tools than these on.ft.com/4cHYj3G

It may seem like the government is spending a lot of money on carbon removal. But if it's going to do the job of getting us to net-zero and helping to halt climate change, today's spending is chump change, according to a new Rhodium Group report.

With today's PFAS news, this The Hill scoop is so striking: For four extra years, companies got away without reporting PFAS toxic waste discharges because of a giant technical loophole. Trump appointees blocked EPA officials from warning Senate about it thehill.com/business/45836….

Over a TERAWATT of new solar, wind and storage capacity has requested interconnection to the US grid since the Inflation Reduction Act became law, roughly doubling the volume in the queue. That's roughly 2x ALL current US generating capacity.

National Grid has just struck a deal with NY energy regulators to hike downstate gas rates over the next three years.

If approved, residential gas heating bills in NYC and Long Island will go up $30/month effective immediately, and keep increasing in 2025 and 2026
