Parents, coaches, sports performance experts, sports medicine colleagues—what questions do you want the panel to answer? Pitch counts, velocity, spin rate, weighted ball programs, max effort throwing, etc, let us know!

We know velocity is king…but at some point no matter the technology, technique, or training methods— the anatomy of the arm will give out…so we need to prevent overuse throwing injuries in our younger athletes so cumulative wear n tear doesn’t build up as they get older…

While 30-something% of MLB arms may have dealt w TJ surgery—better stat is how many of those arms had surgery in minors, before pro ball, and/OR # of careers ended due to injury in HS or college. Injuries are going ⬆️ & we are indeed missing something. Robby Bowers DO, PhD Peter Kriz, MD

Outstanding summary by The Rob Dibble Show.

BTW all those extra pitches he referenced—data has consistently shown we undercount by about 40-45%

'Are pitchers today throwing too hard for their own good? The simple answer is yes. But good luck getting anyone in the sport to slow them down, for one simple reason: Throwing hard works.'

Only 14% of D1 Head Team Doctors are women – a percentage that includes UConn's Dr. Deena Casiero and Purdue's Dr. Carly Day. We are proud to have such terrific medical professionals helping our teams achieve such success.

The human elbow can only withstand so much angular velocity & torque repeatedly, before breaking down. I applaud ⚾️ & 🥎 medicine leaders (some ⬇️) who have been & continue to research this issue.

UCL-R at just A ball and Rookie ball (aka typically youngest pro ⚾️ players) level…quite an increase, huh?!

Intrinsic & extrinsic factors leading to throwing injuries (particularly in adolescents) is a complex multi-factorial challenging issue all sports medicine providers, coaches, parents, and athletes struggle with. It’s not just one issue or factor…

This is the correlate for Tommy John Injuries & arm health based on decades of data:
1: ⬆️Velocity & Velocity training programs
2: Cumulative volume year round (HS & under)
3: ⬇️ ave age TJ surgery…which leads to ⬆️ revision rate.
4: Poor training methods (HS & younger)

Agreed 💯. And the short answer is yes. The main differences (aside from the mechanics of the pitch) is 🥎 throwing/pitching related injuries are about half as baseball & the severity of the injuries are much lower.
