If we want eReferral to take off, we need a firm commitment for the infrastructure to be paid for - indefinitely - by the system; a model whereby receivers cover the costs long term makes no sense. Also -> stable and reliable integrations into hospital systems, asap.

Thanks to the great group for the engagement! This was my first in-classroom, in-person teaching event outside the ward for a long time. It was great to be back and not staring at the wall of Zoom.

Early in the pandemic, our UCSF Health CEO Mark Laret commented on having a once in a lifetime chance to rethink healthcare. In this JAMA piece Regina Herzlinger Barak Richman Kevin Schulman lay out the risks we face systemically in snapping back. buff.ly/3LxhuSW

Do patients prefer immediate access to test results, even when the news may not be good? Multi-site survey of 8,139 patients says: YES ✅ Patients overwhelmingly supported receiving results immediately... But WHY does this matter?🧵 jamanetwork.com/journals/jaman… #hcldr #healthIT

Quite excited about potential for tools like ChatGPT to streamline MD tasks like chart review (currently uber inefficient), BUT to work well, still needs a doubling down to sort fundamentals: data gov, interop and std models to grab and combine data from multiple health systems

“.. the AI could assist in summarising clinical notes for integration into electronic medical records.” Huge potential workflow win. Danger of expansion of junk if people don’t read/confirm what they sign (as often case with copy/paste/auto-import) but upside could be massive.

To have impact, the best are those where you have the lead time to do something (including participating in the informed decision to have or not have surgery). Often they feel last minute and perfunctory. In that situation, any value is in the coordination of post op f/u.

So much packed into one solid NEJM piece (sorry..paywall). Often approach to burnout is more technology, but, somewhat paradoxically, the preferred state is often for the tech to just do what is needed so that we can actually interact with it less. nejm.org/doi/10.1056/NE…

Now that's what I call a useful paper. Not only this new paper describes brilliantly the current regulatory landscape of #digitalhealth interventions but also presents 4 very practical use cases with their own regulatory challenges and solutions. nature.com/articles/s4174…

The federal healthcare funding agreement calls for increased sharing of personal health info between providers and patients. Patients who have access to their own health info are more engaged with their care, says Dr. Trevor Jamieson (Trevor Jamieson): canhealth.com/2023/03/31/ott…

Love this campaign: - “Care is care” modality should be determined by the patient and MD, not reimbursement - “Virtual Care is best used as a compliment to in-person care” - “We cannot go back to pre-pandemic normal, as [it] wasn’t good enough for MDs or patients” #ableg

Big day! Our team UCSF Health has launched GoodDx.org. Helps solve the crazy fact that doctors don't get #feedback about the diagnostic journeys of their patients. Lots of good resources on the site. Let's solve this problem! Moore Foundation Daniel Yang

"The upside potential to make patient care so much better is there, but there's a lot that has to happen before we can really trust those systems to work." Avi Goldfarb joins Diane Brady on Forbes Talks to discuss the future of AI usage, especially in health care.

Canada needs a modern, national health data architecture or we’ll hobble in this internationally competitive field, says Trevor Jamieson in an OpEd for The Hill Times. bit.ly/44shc6K
