Nephrology Journal Club Indeed. The existent evidence, databases and observational studies show a much higher CKD prevalence - lots of possible confounders, concomitant medications etc #nephjc

Once deprescribing eligibility is established, a strategy that tapers PPI use is recommended. Abrupt PPI discontinuation could potentially result in rebound symptoms of acid hypersecretion. It is suggested to ⬇️ PPI dose by 50% in 1- to 2-week intervals. #NephJC

M wondering if semaglutide is going to increase our PPI use? What do people who have experience with sema say about this? Double edged sword? 🗡️#NephJc 😲

Welcome to #TenTweetNephJC ✳️10 tweets #NephJC catch-up ✳️ Nephrologists cringe when we see PPI on the med list, but how bad are these ubiquitous drugs, really? We review post-hoc analysis of the COMPASS trial (which collected PPI use data) designed to answer this question.

T0e Unfortunately, the literature on the long term outcomes of LKD is not robust. Published studies vary in methodology, sample size, follow-up duration and control group selection. More data is needed to be able to adequately discuss the risks with potential donors. #NephJC

T0h Here is a donor risk calculator that estimates long-term ESKD risk using a given set of demographic and baseline (pre-donation) health characteristics regardless of any added risk after nephrectomy. Have you ever used this tool? #NephJC transplantmodels.com/esrdrisk/
