🚨BREAKING: Some big news in the recruiting world, as the NCAA Division I Council has passed a revamped Baseball Recruiting Model that does not allow ANY contact TO or FROM a recruit or their family until August 1 of their junior year.

Patrick, I see it similarly but with a caveat Kids emulate their “heroes” and the heroes of today have walk-up songs they have celebrations, they have all the inside jokes that make watching baseball so entertaining and joyful The game has evolved in this way frankly because

This weekend I spoke with parents about travel baseball ages 6-12. They explained to me that every weekend new players /families were showing up. Eric Cressey sums it up --> "How insane is it that some teams in the travel baseball industry are “recruiting” 12-year-olds to play

“For those who want to know why scouts use a 20-80 scale, we have to take it back to the Legendary Branch Rickey, yes the one who signed Jackie Robinson.      Bear with me as I go a little AP stats on you. Branch Rickey created a numerical scale…”

Brice Matthews rankings on Perfect Game. Families spend 10’s of thousands of dollars on this stuff and get caught up in the rankings hype. Brice was the 18th pick in this years MLB Draft. Don’t put too much weight in this stuff. Find good competition. Play the game. Repeat.

Had a great time at the High School All-Star Game last Sunday playing against the best players in the state. Went 1-1 at the plate with 2 BBs and 2 runs scored. On the mound went 1 IP, 1H, 1R, 3Ks, 12 pitches (100 % strikes). Thank you to Donn Roach for an amazing event.

Last night, I had the incredible opportunity to break down postseason games on Scott Van Pelt’s show on ESPN—a moment that still feels surreal. Growing up, I watched ESPN every day, dreaming about what it would be like to be one of the voices I listened to so intently. Fast

This was the most interesting to me. MLB says pitch velocity is the greatest driver of injury. And yet teams, at the college and pro levels, continue to prioritize velocity. Not only do kids emulate what they see, they train specifically for it. This is baseball's brokenness.
