Study led by UC Irvine prof Nadia Chernyak finds symbolic counting skills to be the biggest predictor of children's fair sharing behavior; prompting children to count improves this behavior. Collaboration includes researchers at Harvard University, Boston College. socsci.uci.edu/newsevents/new…
Excited to share our recent paper (w/ Paul Harris & Sara Cordes), in press at Child Development. We find 1. that kids' counting skills (controlling for age, working memory, & cognitive control) predict fair sharing, and 2. a counting prompt (vs. control) improves fair sharing.
Just arrived Society for Research in Child Development at SLC! Late to this, but here is work from Development of Social Cognition Lab at UC Irvine members! Check out our talks/posters on children's beliefs about wealth stereotypes, household labor, and social group identification!
