Can we avoid ‘catastrophic ecosystem collapse’? Check out new paper with @WoodlandTrust co-author. Shows the importance of our UKTreescapes project DiversiTree which is investigating the role of tree species diversification in forest resilience. amp.theguardian.com/environment/20…

Chris mentioned DiversiTree a UKTreescapes project that brings together lots of partners, stakeholders and advisories! #AABTrees uktreescapes.org/projects/diver…

.DiversiTree goes to Edinburgh! Excited to be talking about the role of tree diversity in ecosystem functionality, specifically the microbiome and its influence tree resilience at the session on Microbes as sentinels and solutions in a changing world #Microbio24 Microbiology Society

⏳Sign up for #DiversiTree webinar on 1st Feb UKTreescapes 🌲🌳 Speakers from James Hutton Institute Uni of Birmingham Bangor University @WoodlandTrust How many species do Scots pine & Sitka support? Can microbial diversity defend against disease? What do managers think about diversity?

Webinar tomorrow! An update on the #DiversiTree project. We’re investigating the impacts, methods & perceptions of tree species diversification in UK woodlands James Hutton Institute @WoodlandTrust BIFoR Bangor Uni Forestry Institute of Chartered Foresters CIEEM Confor Forest Research RSPB Science

How much tree species diversity is too much? Are there different answers to this based on management objectives, geography and scale? How would you measure the positives and negatives of high levels of tree species diversity? 🧐🌲🌳🌲🌳 UKTreescapes James Hutton Institute

It’s generally thought that tree species diversification increases ecological resilience but how does this interact with ambitions to utilise genetic diversity & epigenetics? #TreeOfKnowledge workshop today with this lot 🧬🌳🌲 UKTreescapes funded Thanks UK Centre for Ecology & Hydrology for hosting

Tree genetics are insane! 🌲🌳🧬 Scots pine genome is about 3 times the size of the human genome 🤯 Two trees of the same species growing next to each other can be more genetically distant than humans are from chimps! 🙈🫣 UKTreescapes #TreeOfKnowledge

One of the questions the DiversiTree project is asking: How many species use Sitka spruce that we know of? Hint: it’s more than people might think, with lots of caveats, like landscape connectivity, mgmt approach, and old-growth features on trees🌲 UKTreescapes

🤔Where does the concept of woodland diversity come from? 🌲🌳🌲🌳 Find out in the first paper to be published by the #DiversiTree project funded by UKTreescapes Access for free here: researchgate.net/publication/38… With thanks to RoyalForestrySociety & #QuarterlyJournalofForestry
