Future of Marine Ecosystems Lab EAC Marine Ecology Action Centre (EAC) To my best knowledge, these are some of the first images of eelgrass under sea ice in Atlantic Canada, taken by Nic Winkler - it was a pretty neat experience discovering the life flourishing under 60cm ice!

Did you know that #eelgrass also grows under sea ice as far north as the Arctic? Like land plants it is seasonal, so growth slows down in winter and only a few short shoots remain waiting for spring. Seeds buried in the sediment also need the cold to germinate. #WorldSeagrassDay

Although today is the last day of IMPAC5, the movement for ocean conservation will only keep growing! With ocean conservation passionates like Kristina Boerder 🌻 and Vincenzo Corelli, who presented their work at IMPAC 5, we can reach 30 by 30!
