Freshman Jayden McNeill runs a PR of 5:12.66 in the mile today at the Yale High School Classic. He also posts a 1:37.23 in the 600. Jayson Drayton and Shane McAdams gain PRs in the 600. Kezia Amartey runs a season best of 6:38.26 in the mile.

Freshman Sasha Capelle qualifies for the Class S Championship in 2 events at today's Yale HS Classic. She runs a season best 5:49.74 in the mile. She also runs a PR of 1:46.75 in the 600, moving her to #2 so far this season in the NVL.

Lots of PRs from our distance crew Wednesday at the James Barber Invite at SCSU. Freshman Maya Winkowski breaks the 7:00 barrier in the 1,600 meters with a PR of 6:59.33. Freshman Sage Cobb posts a 54-second PR with a 7:36.7. Freshman Tyler Adams PRs in the 1,000 with a 3:35.5.

Freshman Jayden McNeill climbs to the No. 6 spot in the NVL so far this season in the 1,600 meters with his 5:03.22 Wednesday at the James Barber Invite at SCSU. He crushes his previous PR by 9 seconds. Jayden also runs 3:00.2 in the 1,000 - moving to the 8th spot in the NVL.

Kezia Amartey runs 6:21.92 PR in the 1,600 at SCSU's Jim Barber Invite. Later, she runs PR of 1:52.48 in the 600, moving her up to #4 spot at that distance so far this yr in NVL & #6 on all-time DHS list. Derby's Sasha Capelle currently #2 in the 600 in NVL & on all-time DHS list

Our Derby High School Cross Country runners show their mettle both on & off the course. Mac Gray (center) finishes 1st Thursday in the DHS Oratorical Contest sponsored by the American Legion, John H. Collins Post. Sofia Rudus (left) places 2nd, while Jeyden Allwood finishes 3rd.

Derby High School Cross Country standout Joel Capelle points to a newly revised banner in the school gym on which his name was added. Joel, a junior, attained Class SS All-State honors in the fall by placing 7th in the CIAC Class SS State Championship.

Freshman Eli Rodriguez runs a season best 2:33 to lead off our boys’ 4 x 800 relay Friday at Bethel. Isaac Baez (2:33.5), Devin Hicks (2:39.85), Chris Kyrian (2:45.5). Also running well: Tyler Adams (800m leg of SMR) & Ansonia’s Valentina Erazo (1,000), completing her 1st race.

Maya Winkowski crushes her previous PR by 21 seconds in the 1,600 meters Friday at Bethel with a time of 6:38.5. She stayed with a pack of 3 other runners for most of the race, before passing 2 of them on the final lap to finish 3rd overall. Sage Cobb PRs in 1,600 in 7:32.27.

Sasha Capelle PRs in the 1,000 meters Friday in a meet at Bethel with a time of 3:25.63, vaulting her to the No. 3 seed in the NVL. Kezia Amartey posts a 6-second PR in the 1,000 in 3:39.17. Joel Capelle qualifies for the Class S Championship meet in the 3,200 with a 10:25.58.

Quincy Carter wins the 55-meter dash Friday evening to lead the Derby boys’ indoor track team to a 6th place finish at the NVL Championship Meet. He runs it in 6.59 seconds. Joel Capelle takes 3rd in the 1,600. Cesar Rueda is 3rd in the shot put. The SMR team also takes 3rd.

Kezia Amartey finishes 4th in the 600 meters with a time of 1:50.69, a personal record (PR). She is now ranked 5th on the list of all-time DHS girls in that event. Sage Cobb runs a 9-second PR of 2:14.16 in the 600, while Maya places 10th in the 1,600 in 6:42.44.

Freshman Jeyden Allwood breaks the 6:00 barrier in the 1,600 meters for the first time. He runs a 5:55.12, a 17-second PR.
