RIP to Bernard Weisberger, and read this thread from his collaborator Marshall. Their co-authored essay for us is still one of our favorites in the journal's history.

I wrote this in the summer of 2021.

“The Fed’s conventional medicine of higher interest rates is not a good tool for combating rental inflation. In fact, it could be directly counterproductive…by making new investment more costly…”

It was great to chat with Todd N. Tucker at Democracy Journal’s ‘Redefining the Center’ conference. To build a stronger, more equitable economy for workers and families, policymakers must make robust public investments in both physical AND social infrastructure.

Strong words from Celinda Lake at the Democracy Journal conference, based on her research: 'People think it's insane to raise interest rates when prices are already going up. As one person in a focus group told me, 'What neighborhood do these people live in?''

I wrote about the CHIPS Act deal with TSMC. The company was clearly sandbagging and too many wonks took it as proof that America can't build anything. The administration stood strong and made a pretty good deal on balance, though there are a few concerns.

For too long corporate lawyers and economists have been running the show on competition policy, dominating antirust law to favor their own policy preferences.

But as Sandeep Vaheesan explores in Democracy Journal, we are on the seeds of an antitrust revival democracyjournal.org/magazine/72/se…

'Only alliances win. That is the lasting lesson of the neoliberals,' Felicia Wong writes in Democracy Journal.

'We can take the reins of power, too, if we continue to build stronger institutions and a popular movement for a more democratic economy.'

'An Economy with Ethics.' Fabulous piece by Tara Dawson McGuinness in Democracy Journal. democracyjournal.org/magazine/72/an…. 'The highest achievement of the next economic order will be to put the market back in its place as a subordinate contributor to human flourishing, and not the other way around.'

A more active industrial policy is not just good for the economy, jobs & the climate, it's ultimately good for democracy itself.

In his Democracy Journal essay & Pitchfork Economics segment, Todd N. Tucker explores how democracy could be connected to economic policy: twitter.com/PitchforkEcon/…
