Antibiotics don’t work for the flu, cold, or viruses. When you or your child have flu symptoms, it’s important to be patient with your recovery. Most viral illnesses will take 4–5 days before getting better and up to 3 weeks for a full recovery.

Antibiotics aren’t always necessary. They only work for bacterial infections and in some cases, those infections go away on their own. If you have questions about how to use antibiotics –talk to a health care provider.
