This Cell paper on the 'cancer microbiome' repeats all the mistakes that gave us the so-called 'fetal microbiome'. Inadequate contamination controls, no culture data, no microscopy. And is it really ecologically plaucible that 165 genera colonize tumors?

I recommend people to read this paper from Steven Salzberg 💙💛 that showed there is likely no such thing as a 'cancer microbiome'.

I also recommend our paper on the 'fetal microbiome' and the dangers of low-biomass microbial studies, with recommendations on how to characterize low-biomass samples and samples for which biomass might be zero.
