Short🧵on the appalling coverage by BBC News (UK) of Israel’s slaughter of Palestinian refugees sheltering in tents in a so-called ‘safe zone’ in Rafah.

1st they run a piece with the title ‘Deadly explosion reported in Rafah’ as if it happened out of nowhere.

Next they provide a justifying framing for Israel’s horrific attack, referring to a ‘precise air strike’, with a full 15 paragraphs before any mention of the ICJ’s ruling that Israel must halt its offensive on Rafah.

Then a piece titled ‘Deadly strike on Rafah a tragic mishap, says Netanyahu’, parroting his blatantly implausible response to growing international condemnation, with zero analysis & no mention that the International Criminal Court prosecutor is seeking a warrant for his arrest.

And this morning an article reporting as fact that ‘Israeli officials had spent much of Monday scrambling to find out what went wrong in Rafah’, while promoting trust in the promise of a ‘thorough investigation’ by Israel’s top military officials.

This little snapshot of BBC News (UK) gives an insight into how it provides cover for Israel’s genocidal assault on the Palestinian people & is playing a role in allowing it to continue. Over 100,000 Palestinians in Gaza have been killed or injured by Israel in the last 8 months.

The total absence of outrage amongst mainstream British media and their complicity in allowing the destruction of the Palestinian people to continue has been writ large for us to see. Such morally bereft coverage will stand as a testament to this very dark moment in history.
