It took a while for the offence to come in William Stromgren’s first season in North America, but after going 4-13-17 in his first 57 games, he was 3-7-10 in his final 11. Then tonight, the 20-year-old Flames prospect notched this beauty and had an assist.

Sean Monahan’s body has certainly been through enough in his NHL career to be deserving of a long Stanley Cup playoff run. It’s great to see him as a key contributor in Winnipeg and love seeing that big smile after he helped set up the Jets go-ahead goal.

So, Chris Tanev and Noah Hanifin end up meeting in the first round. Didn’t see that coming.

Not real helpful for the Flames, who have conditional draft picks tied to Dallas and Vegas both having success.

Not sure how helpful it is for the Golden Knights either, to be honest.

MacKenzie Weegar has been great and on Thursday he capped off an impressive season in style with a goal that was meaningful in three ways. e.g., Breaking an Al MacInnis record just doesn’t happen often. My story for The Canadian Press Sports after a 5-1 Flames win. thestar.com/sports/hockey/…

Late night thought as I wrap up my 35th year covering games for The Canadian Press. Flames may not have those coveted A++ prospects yet, but in the likes of Wolf, Zary, Pospisil, Klapka, Coronato, Pelletier and Miromanov, there are pieces in all sizes and skillsets that intrigue.

In a disappointing year for the Flames, Nazem Kadri continues to be a bright spot, along with whomever is playing on his line — Andrei Kuzmenko the latest beneficiary with 9 goals and 16 points in his last 9 games. My story from Sunday for The Canadian Press Sports. theglobeandmail.com/sports/hockey/…

Since the 2000s began, Jarome Iginla (5 times), Elias Lindholm and Matthew Tkachuk are the only Flames to score at a rate of 0.50 goals/game or higher in a season.

Since being dealt to Calgary, Andrei Kuzmenko has 13 goals in 26 games.

For what it’s worth, dude can score goals.

Full credit to the Flames' effort tonight. For a team with zippo to play for and losers of seven of their last eight, they've brought their lunch buckets to work tonight and are giving the Oilers everything they can handle and more. Best game I've seen Calgary play in a while.

Dustin Wolf isn’t the first goalie to give up a goal to Alex Ovechkin. In fact, he’s the 174th. Led by Ovi, who was doing Ovi things — and making history in the process, Washington Capitals beat the Calgary Flames on Monday. My story for The Canadian Press Sports. thestar.com/sports/hockey/…

He plays centre, but judging by his smile, I’d suggest new Flames NCAA free agent signing, Sam Morton, is here to replace Chris Tanev.

Surrounded by greatness. Dustin Wolf has passed Curtis Joseph in career wins and he’s one back of Grant Fuhr.

Mired in an “embarrassing” three-game losing skid in which they were outscored 18-5, Flames picked themselves up off the canvas on Thursday with a pivotal third period breakaway stop from Dustin Wolf being the biggest moment. My story for The Canadian Press Sports. nationalpost.com/pmn/sports-pmn…

'It was an embarrassing 72 hours for our team,' said Blake Coleman post-game, talking about the Flames three straight losses coming into tonight and being outscored 18-5. 'Our response to losing some guys and some friends, maybe wasn't the best, and we got slapped pretty hard for…

Well, look at that. The Flames have signed *noted American* Hunter Brzustewicz to an entry-level contract. The 19-year-old 6-foot-0 right-shot defenceman has piled up 85 points (12 goals, 73 assists) in 62 games for Kitchener (OHL) this season.
