It is not for landlords to tell renters what they need.

That they are so keen for this version of the bill to pass tells you everything you need to know about its effectiveness.

Renters were promised an end to no fault evictions. This bill doesn't even offer a timeframe or plan for doing that.

It's not too late. Ministers must ensure the Renters Reform Bill delivers on its promises.

🚨🚨 We Renters' Reform Coalition members will not accept this Renters (Reform) Bill 🚨🚨

As it enters its remaining House of Commons stages this afternoon, we are warning that in its current form the Bill 'will be a failure'.

These are sensible proposals from Labour.

As we (Joseph Rowntree Foundation) wrote recently, this approach will work best if Govt takes an active role in land assembly and master development, using uplifts in land value to pay for the infra needed to make sites work.

While inflation has come down to 3.2%, private rents definitely have not.

Joseph Rowntree Foundation analysis this morning shows that across GB, rents increased by an average of £104 a month (9.1%) over the last year, & in London by £207 per month (11.2%).

The cost of living crisis is not over.

Today, Joseph Rowntree Foundation has published the 1st of a 3 part blog series on tackling hardship in neighbourhoods.

Katie Schmuecker and I reflect on the central themes of the first four blogs which explore our understanding of hardship beyond material deprivation and social connection👇
