It doesn't bode well for the future of the region that some of the most prominent advocates of moderate forms of political Islam are either in prison or died in jail. Left to right: Rached Ghannouchi, Abdel Moneim Abu al-Futuh and the late Saudi reformer Abdullah al-Hamid.

Dear Vice President JD Vance Vance - this is objectively wrong. As we Refugees International and partner orgs showed in new analysis last week, Israel is still blocking most humanitarian aid and obstructing legit aid groups. You are falling for an Israeli govt talking point. 🧵

When the Israeli government talks about truck volumes into Gaza, they leave out that fact that very little of that is aid - only 1 in every 5 or 6 trucks. Only ~100 aid trucks coordinated through the UN-established mechanism are getting in per day; most aid remains blocked.

The Israeli government is letting in more commercial trucks - but these often contain lower-priority, non-lifesaving goods. Soda can get in, but critical medical supplies and shelter materials can’t. That is not success, and kids are still suffering and dying because of it.

As we write, commercial goods (while important) are not remotely a substitute for a robust aid flow. As long as Gaza’s economy remains broken and most Palestinians live in displacement limbo, many don’t have the financial means to meet basic needs via markets.

I don't find Trump promoting an image of himself as Dr Jesus, MD, and of Hegseth confusing the Bible with Pulp Fiction particularly surprising. Both belong to a political culture that views Jesus as an American-born West Bank settler, and does not recognize anything older than
