UPDATE: SE, helos are dumping water around N of Siliver Lake, Thunder Mountain, and N of Kirkwood. #caldorfire

No flights are over the fire at this time other than the Kirkwood area. Visibility in the north is not clear enough. #caldorfire

UPDATE: SE, 7 helos are now working the massive area from just N of Caples Lake, back through Kirkwood Lake, around Thunder Mountain, and W of Silver Lake. #CaldorFire

USFS and cal fire firefighters prepare hose to haul up 1200 vertical ft of steep fireline to extend a 6,000 ft hoselay above kirkwood last night. Hiking in the fire, in the middle of the night, at 7500 feet with 60 lbs or more on their backs. They deserve our thanks. #caldorfire

UPDATE: SE, Kirkwood remains (relatively) safe at this time. As do areas around Silver Lake. The fire to the NE of here that crossed dozer lines yesterday is running into a lot of rock (less fuel) and high altitude. Plus it was hammered with water drops. Also... #caldorfire

...still a lot of work to be done around and north of Caples Lake but I expect good news to be coming from officials shortly on Kirkwood. I will be monitoring for alerts today but, as I side yesterday, it appears these will be coming less often. Grateful... #CaldorFire

#CaldorFire - Wasn't a whole lot to pass on today, copters continued their work in the Wrights Lake + Kirkwood areas. Were using copters & Mobile Retardant Bases S/E of Wrights Lake, that wilderness area is tough country w/ long hikes in & out for ground crews.
