Great to see so many lovely colleagues and old friends at the The UK Association for Music Education: Music Mark 2024 conference in Nottingham. Some cracking, thought provoking sessions too. Good work all, though didn't quite expect the Alpine weather... Battling home on delayed but climate friendly trains now!

Britain didn’t hold an election during WWII until Nazi Germany was defeated, despite not being occupied but only enduring attacks from the air and sea. Trump would've called Churchill a 'dictator'

So true... Music education desperately needs greater investment in England BUT there is fantastic work nonetheless happening in some schools where school leadership is committed and there is a progressive, effective music hub to support...

Dan Somogyi It's not that music isn't happening in schools. The problem is, it's just singing songs or bashing drums without much assessment or progress (or worse, shouting at a screen). Until all primary teachers receive much better teacher training, this wil be probably always be the way.

The arrogance and self-importance of these tech companies is extraordinary. Even the govt's favoured opt out is not enough. Read The Times and The Sunday Times today. They want to be able take whatever they want without payment or permission. Outrageous ISM thetimes.com/article/bc6748…

There should be no dilemma for any of us in desperately asking Israel to allow full-scale humanitarian aid into Gaza, to reverse the catastrophe that is under way, while simultaneously condemning Hamas’s hostage holding and Oct 7 massacre. Watch the UN’s Fletcher below:

Around 400 Palestinians, including dozens of children, have been killed while trying to get humanitarian assistance. I don’t recall these incidents (including this weekend) leading many papers or news bulletins. Are we really saying a few chants from a couple of musicians is more
