Sweaters, hats, coats, boots, blankets, socks are some of the goodies in our winter kits. Thanks to Sida and UNICEF thematic funding, these kits are keeping over 35,000 children warm this winter!

In Helmand’s Mukhtar IDP camp, Indrika Ratwatte and I met 8-month-old Amena, brought by her mother for a vital nutrition check. 4-month-old Bibi Hawa was brought by her mother to this health centre in Samangan, #Afghanistan, to get her polio vaccine. Her mother proudly told me, "I never miss a vaccination." With our partners, UNICEF Afghanistan vaccinated over 11.6 M children under-5 against polio last year.

Afghanistan’s winters can be harsh, with temperatures dropping to -33°C and roads cut off. In 2024, UNICEF Afghanistan, with support from partners, provided nearly 54,000 families with cash assistance to help them buy warm clothes, blankets & other essentials to keep their children safe.

Over the past two years, 1.3M children under-5 in #Afghanistan received treatment for severe acute malnutrition thanks to UNICEF Afghanistan's donors. This support gave these children a chance to survive, grow & thrive. We cannot afford to lose these gains. unicef.org/press-releases…
