Together, we just completed 8 more water systems, bringing safe water to the homes of over 18,000 people, including children, in remote villages of Ghor province, western Afghanistan. #WaterIsLife

1300 climate-resilient water systems in 3 years – with these, UNICEF Afghanistan has reached 1.5 million people. But the targets for next year are more ambitious. They hope to reach nearly 4 million people with sufficient safe water.

With EU Humanitarian Aid | Asia-Pacific 🇪🇺, UNICEF Afghanistan provided malnutrition treatment to over 600,000 children in 2024. Last week, EU Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid 🇪🇺 ‘s Davide Zappa visited Ghani Ghel Hospital in Nangarhar Prov. Eastern Afghanistan to see emergency preparedness activities & appreciate the work done for children.

Together with Asian Development Bank Country Director for Afghanistan David Hill at the Shamsulhaq health centre in Kandahar. Thanks to Asian Development Bank, UNICEF Afghanistan supports 745 health facilities & 5,007 health posts in Afghanistan, so that children like 3-month-old Mustafa can get the care they need.

In Helmand’s Mukhtar IDP camp, Indrika Ratwatte and I met 8-month-old Amena, brought by her mother for a vital nutrition check. Thanks to Asian Development Bank & UNICEF Afghanistan, 213 children under 5 received life-saving malnutrition treatment this January. Every child deserves a healthy start.

Afghanistan’s winters can be harsh, with temperatures dropping to -33°C and roads cut off. In 2024, UNICEF Afghanistan, with support from partners, provided nearly 54,000 families with cash assistance to help them buy warm clothes, blankets & other essentials to keep their children safe.
