#WaterCrisis continues to threaten the survival of children in #Afghanistan & it can’t be ignored. Thanks to our donors and partners, UNICEF Afghanistan reached 1 million people, including #children, in 2024. As 2025 begins, we must continue our efforts. #WaterIsLife💧 UNICEF Water

Pleased to see the impact of UNICEF Afghanistan partnership with Embassy of Japan in Afghanistan Japan.Gov. Together, we just completed 8 more water systems, bringing safe water to the homes of over 18,000 people, including children, in remote villages of Ghor province, western Afghanistan. #WaterIsLife

1300 climate-resilient water systems in 3 years – with these, UNICEF Afghanistan has reached 1.5 million people. But the targets for next year are more ambitious. They hope to reach nearly 4 million people with sufficient safe water.

Thanks to Veronika Boskovic Pohar for visiting our joint work on #ChildrenOnTheMove in Herat, Western Afghanistan. With EUinAfghanistan's support, UNICEF Afghanistan helped over 17,000 children return home safely to their families & linked them to essential services in 2024. Earlier this week, my colleagues and I had fruitful engagement with World Bank South Asia leadership & regional team on our partnership in health, education & social protection. UNICEF Afghanistan appreciates the support that has sustained results #ForEveryChild & communities in Afghanistan.

Together with Asian Development Bank Country Director for Afghanistan David Hill at the Shamsulhaq health centre in Kandahar. Thanks to Asian Development Bank, UNICEF Afghanistan supports 745 health facilities & 5,007 health posts in Afghanistan, so that children like 3-month-old Mustafa can get the care they need.

In Helmand’s Mukhtar IDP camp, Indrika Ratwatte and I met 8-month-old Amena, brought by her mother for a vital nutrition check. Thanks to Asian Development Bank & UNICEF Afghanistan, 213 children under 5 received life-saving malnutrition treatment this January. Every child deserves a healthy start.

After 2 years of unwavering dedication, we bid farewell, today, to Rushnan Murtaza, Deputy Representative UNICEF Afghanistan. Thank you for your services to Afghanistan's #children & their families. Wishing you the very best in your future assignment.

4-month-old Bibi Hawa was brought by her mother to this health centre in Samangan, #Afghanistan, to get her polio vaccine. Her mother proudly told me, "I never miss a vaccination." With our partners, UNICEF Afghanistan vaccinated over 11.6 M children under-5 against polio last year.

#MineRiskEducation saves lives! In #Afghanistan, explosive ordnance remains a deadly threat to children. That's why in 2024, UNICEF Afghanistan & partners reached 3.1 million #children & caregivers with mine risk education, equipping them to stay safe. EUinAfghanistan Embassy of Japan in Afghanistan

Afghanistan’s winters can be harsh, with temperatures dropping to -33°C and roads cut off. In 2024, UNICEF Afghanistan, with support from partners, provided nearly 54,000 families with cash assistance to help them buy warm clothes, blankets & other essentials to keep their children safe.

Over the past two years, 1.3M children under-5 in #Afghanistan received treatment for severe acute malnutrition thanks to UNICEF Afghanistan's donors. This support gave these children a chance to survive, grow & thrive. We cannot afford to lose these gains. unicef.org/press-releases…
