On this day in 1918, John McCrae died of pneumonia in France while serving in the First World War. Born in 1872 in Guelph, he enlisted in 1914 as a medical officer. In 1915, he composed the poem In Flanders Field, one of the most famous poems in Canadian history.

A balanced fleet of ~40 F35s and ~80 Gripens would bring us back to the size of the fighter fleet we had during Kosovo. The affordable Gripen would be the workhorse while the expensive F35 would specialize in bombing and SEAD. A larger mixed fleet makes sense for Canada.
