Amazing night of fieldwork last night, with 3 more ♂️ Nightjars tagged & the capture of a rare Greater Horseshoe Bat & literally 100's upon 100's of Silver-studded Blues roosting on the tops of the heather. Quite a memorable solstice. BTO Bat Conservation Trust Butterfly Conservation 🦋 Dorset Heaths Partnership
Wow! My first scientific paper just published at Scientific Reports ! A telemetry study shows that an endangered nocturnal avian species roosts in extremely dry habitats to avoid predation nature.com/articles/s4159… #Nightjars #ornithology #conservation >>
Back in June we posted about a ringed Natterer's Bat that we caught whilst undertaking our Nightjar study, which proved to be of great excitement within the Dorset Bat group too. Lovely to see a small piece about this individual in the Dec edition of British Wildlife. Bat Conservation Trust

We kicked off #nightjar season 16. Cold and rainy, but we observed a first roosting male. So proud of this team that will focus on #skyglow #lightpollution, communication, #migration and juvenile dispersal. #heathlandboysforlife. FWO UAntwerpen CMK UHasselt

Gotta think the UK Nightjars are similarly having a hard time of it, to early to tell, yet to be monitoring any nests but here's hoping things improve very soon!! Dorset Bird Club Dorset Heaths Partnership Dorset Wildlife Trust BTO
Nice to have Mya Bambrick back working with the team this year, looking at Nightjar chicks and eggs for her dissertation BTO BBC Springwatch Dorset Bird Club Dorset Heaths Partnership
I'm told this may be the 1st female Scarlet Darter seen (and seen mating) in the UK - there will be better photos but hopefully these are enough to clinch it - pale stripe between the wing bases and orange patch at base of hindwings both visible British Dragonfly Society Adrian Parr
