Plan C (or was it D?) today, tacking in a southerly direction over the bridge & hoping for a tailwind home. Got the legs out (I shall spare you any photographic evidence) after the promising weather forecast.

Heavy legged again, but good to get out 👍

Bumped in to some of my old club mates, had a catch up and coffee - just got in before the rush - then set off for a sedate 50-miler.

Struggled again - it was a bit lumpy - but lovely views after an early mist.

Radu Chirvasuta Rob Ainsley Yorkshire Wolds Yorkshire Wolds Weather Hedgehog Cycling I think I prefer this tweak to the eastern section of the 'Hockney Trail: A Cyclist's Route'. The B1253 can be busy - this mostly downhill stretch is the only part of it I ever ride - but it provides a satisfying end:

Afternoon pootle to the yesterday, ending with a variation of the eastern 'Hockney Trail: A Cyclist's Route': riding up to Cowlam crossroads includes 'Road across the Wolds' and passes the rotunda for 'The road to York through Sledmere' 👍

I love when a route slowly but surely develops. This new route in Yorkshire has a bit of everything on the 420km I’ve mapped so far. There’ll also be shorter loops - and a shorter route for & trailers. Another 106km in the legs from Scarborough to Hull.

Impromptu ride after today's plans were cancelled. Slipped in to Hockney mode and some sites from the western 'Hockney Trail' (minus the crest out of Thixendale & Painsthorpe Lane). Photos from a different season. Sun came out later...

Took the youngest on the tandem for her first Yorkshire Wold bike ride yesterday. A shorter version of the 'South Dalton, Lockington & Lund' route, which I think she enjoyed.

I've updated - and will further revise - my page for the Big Skies Bike Rides:

In the middle of the Yorkshire Wolds stands the Rudstone Monolith, the tallest standing stone on the UK at 27ft (ish). Said to be before 2000BC. The church is Norman and so 3000 years younger!

On the long drive from Cornwall to Northumberland, I stopped at St. James church in Nunburnholme in the Yorkshire Wolds: the church and burial place of Francis Orpen Morris (1810-93), ornithologist, opponent of animal cruelty, and increasingly vocal and eccentric anti-Darwinian.

I didn't know until quite recently about the link between the RSPB and Nunburnholme's Reverend Morris. I expect he would have been thrilled by the sight of red kite circling over Garforth Wood. The village notice board - bordered by birds - is well worth a read...

Seen this from RiderHQ/SportiveHQ? Sat 9th March - 8am start - 70 miles.

'Fully supported with mechanics, medics & recovery vehicle.' 3600ft.

Rather mysteriously, I see no route - a GPX file will be emailed, apparently. £22.50 - entries close Wednesday.

Looked like a spring ride today; felt like a winter one. Cut short the route I'd planned on the hoof; faded towards the end. Bumped in to a few groups of cyclists - chatted to some from Scarborough - but otherwise had the roads pretty much to myself 👍
