A guy on the train told me the governments opening relief camps. It’s deep in the woods and far from the city. I hate giving up my trek to Alberta but I’m starving. If this “relief” is my only shot at a job and a roof over my head I have to take it #employment Sept 1932

We just pulled up to the site, it’s nothing but dirty houses and woods. My pay check is 20 cents a day, which is a huge underpayment but beggars can’t be choosers. They gave me a cheap blanket and pointed me to a bunk. This is not a job site. It’s a cage. #relief dec 1932

Riding the rods to Ottawa. It’s cold, but all 2000 of us are united. We’re tired of relief camps. The conditions at the camps are cruel. Long hours, little pay, and little safety. Heading to Ottawa to tell the PM Bennett we want real work, not slavery. #trektoottowa June 3rd 1935

We got to Regina. and were stopped immediately. We were trying to rally and collect donations when the RCMP came to stop us. They quickly turned violent, injuring and even killing some of us. After all of our efforts we ended up back in the relief camps. #hopeless July 1st 1935
