Sitting in the oak leaf design is a small bird - a wren - a reference to the designer of the cathedral 10 miles away.

Once again, star of the show was a peek inside St Mary Aldermany, at its extraordinary ceiling. Rebuilt by the office of Wren, the expense of such decoration met by the Will of a parishioner.

First wife Faith was a childhood friend. Married at Temple Church 1669 she died & was buried at St Martin-in-the-Fields in 1675.

The Festival of Britain was officially opened OTD in 1951. A national exhibition, designed as a tonic to a war weary country, the event combined art, architecture, science, technology and design on the main South Bank site and around the country
