Thanks for that. I couldn’t find out much about the history of the line other that there were early wagonways in the area on part of whose trackbed it may have been built, or when exactly those BR goods services ended.

I think Joe Brown could be on to something here, where is the oddest place anyone has spotted an LR train in the British Isles, excluding the IoW and the battery conversions.

This was also suggested by Robert Flute. Never heard of these before. I did see Alderney from thé very top of the Cherbourg peninsula last month and was surprised both by how close it was to France and how far away from the other Channel Islands it was.

I've been busy with the scanner this afternoon. For starters, No 4080 Powderham Castle, then allocated to Westbury, is seen at Dorchester Junction with a Paddington to Weymouth train in August 1951.

#OnThisDay 65 years ago Manchester Mayfield closed. It was effectively an overspill to relieve nearby Piccadilly; after closure it was derelict for 10 years before reopening as a parcels depot between 1970-1986. JW Sutherland image a month before closure buff.ly/yWztykl

Think this is the first example of a LT&SR loco I've found in the files. 3P 4-4-2T No 41975 leaves Luffenham with the 2.57pm Seaton to Stamford Town service on 31 May 1958. One of only 14 on BR's books in 1957, this was a MR/LMS development of a Whitelegg design dating from 1897

A superb photo of a very well presented B17, No 61635 Milton, passing through Pinchbeck, north of Spalding, with a Harwich to Liverpool service in July 1951. The large 6ft 8in driving wheels of these handsome locos, introduced in 1928, are shown to good effect in the picture.

En homage to Michael Corcoran, I published his definitive history of Dublin’s tramways, Through Streets Broad and Narrow, lovely man, hugely knowledgeable, great book. Crecy now holds the rights to this title, maybe, just maybe, we could bring it back in print some time.
