Cranborne now has a Community Orchard! Thank you to all 40 or so volunteers planting it on Sunday, especially Cranborne Estate & @CranborneChase FIPL funding for making it possible.

Spring’s sprung? Hedgerows of blossom. The Grove is now fully planted thanks to 3 generations of Brights gapping up with a Matravers (cider apple). Thanks too to the Cranborne Estate farm staff fitting the tree guards. Do take care as they do have sharp barbs on when visiting.

Happy Easter, our first fruit tree has burst into leaf, (an early plum). Notice the cattle grazing in the back ground. As soon as it is dry enough, the field between the Agro Forestry strips will be drilled with spring barley. To be harvested in 5 months time.

Interesting blog post discusses need for increase in tree cover. Our new community orchard as part of Cranborne Estate agroforestry project combines agricultural crops & rows of trees, illustrates how land use may have multiple benefits whilst still increasing tree cover.

Good to see new legislation starting to go through parliament ensuring a 2m buffer strip from the centre of agricultural hedgerows is not sprayed or ploughed.

An excellent evening with the team from Cranborne Estate learning about their regenerative farming practices. Starting & finishing in the Sheaf of Arrows, a super community event thank you to all involved. Looking forward to another tour in the autumn based around forestry.

Sadly the common glow worm has just been re classified as ' near threatened', delighted to have seen 2 within 1 m in central Cranborne tonight.

Interesting to see this restoration Mike Blackmore , are there ever environmental factors or benefits for leaving historical weirs and races in tact? Interested as the Crane has significant features next to a historical animal feed mill site near Cranborne.

Little things can make a big difference. Thank you to Cranborne Estate! Shiny new tap means the old leaky one creating low water pressure for village #allotments has been replaced. If a Cranborne resident & you want to go on the waiting list for a plot for the Autumn do message.
