Why is our new project on coral restoration using selective propagation so important? Check out this recent study by USGS - in HI alone, coral reefs protect $836 million worth of buildings & economic activity annually. We can't wait to get started!

Thanks for the laser scanning lesson, Joharnien Madin! Working up from the hat to complex corals, can’t wait to scan my experimental corals in the field. @GatesCoralLab

This is the season to be jolly - if you are chasing a job in coral reef science! Four positions in exciting new project at AIMS. Come join us in delivering important science for the Great Barrier Reef. Excellent facilities and collaborative environment. bit.ly/2RzfZFS

#Coral post. We had a HUGE Montipora capitata spawning event this July, see newly settled spat (L). However, they are slow growers - one year olds (R). It takes a long time for these reef-building corals to take up major real estate on the reef.

#Coral growth is slow and steady! Check out these juvenile colonies of Montipora capitata (rice coral) in the @gatescorallab at 2 months (left) and 1 year old (center). Eventually, they will grow into a large colony (right) that helps form #reefs in Kaneohe Bay! 📸@TheHufferfish

Three years may have passed, but the momentum Ruth brought to coral intervention research and her inspirational words remain with us as we continue our work to preserve coral reefs. PC: Elyse Butler
